Ibn al Haytham - The First Scientist - Alhazen - Ibn al Haitham - Alhacen

NINJA

My children tell me a ninja
lives in our neighborhood.
They say he wears black
from head to toe
and disappears
into shadows.
He stands so still
you can walk past him
and never know it.
They believe he can enter homes at will.

I know they are right.

I have felt his breath
on the back of my neck
and stumbled over his feet
as I lunged for a ringing phone
in the dark. He moves things
so I cannot find them.
He watches me as I watch
television, listens as I speak,
reads over my shoulder in bed.
He looks on as I shower,
shave, make love, sleep.
He knows as much about me
as I do. Possibly more.

The kids say the police
are searching for him.

I would turn him in myself
if I thought he wouldn’t talk.
